Second building for the Greek-Rum Community in the heart of Istanbul.
Following time-consuming and costly procedures, the Commission of the Greek Orthodox Community of Stavrodromi received a building permit for a four-storey building in Elmadag, in the hearth of Istanbul. This was no easy feat: There was a race against time at the public services, followed by our resort to Justice - a costly three-year litigation - to protect the rights of the Greek-Rum Community, sometimes even against ill-willers who deemed it proper to threaten us. All these are now history, given the fact that we finally obtained the definitive building permit. The project is currently in progress, thanks to the experience our Commission gained during the “Huzur” building construction, two years ago in the Dolapdere district.
In the beginning of the year, construction works were launched for the building in Elmadag and are now pleased to announce that the first two floors have been almost completed.
It is a wish - and strategy - of our community to ensure that all building projects within our vision are implemented with funds of the Greek-Rum Community and remain in full ownership of the Greek-Rum Community. The project in Elmadag progresses slowly but steadily - while our Commission works to ensure the necessary funds. Currently we consider the possibility of collaboration with other foundations of the Greek-Rum Community who may wish to participate in the project.
We remain committed to our views on helping and informing our fellow citizens of the Greek-Rum Community, as well as any other interested party, regarding matters within our remit.
