The Cemetery of the Greek Orthodox Community of Stavrodromi at Sisli, a bit further to the north of Taksim Square, the largest Greek Orthodox cemetery in Istanbul, has been recognised by the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe - ASCE as one of the most important cemeteries in Europe, with international acclaim, such as the likes of Vienna, London, Berlin, Paris, Milan etc. This recognition is extremely importantly, given that ASCE (The Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe), is a non-profit internationally acknowledged organisation, established in 2001 in Bolognia - Itally with the main purpose of protecting, preserving and promoting significant cemeteries in Europe, as monuments of international civilisation.
The Sisli Cemetery was included in the ASCE cemetery network during the General Meeting of the association on 20-22/9/2018, in Innsbruck - Austria. As a new member of the ASCE, the Sisli Cemetery is promoted as an important part of the international cultural heritage and stands out in the best possible way in the European and international community, through the ASCE communication networks.
